Appliqué Houses

Today I am posting images of two girls appliqué designs I have done. I wanted to create childlike images of houses/homes and would like to develop this theme in the future to create street scenes. With denim/chambray bases for surface interest these designs would be suitable for both home textiles or children's fashion.

Greetings Cards - Easter Animals

Here is my latest installment of greetings card designs. This is my Easter Animals collection for 2009.

The two Easter Chicks designs began as a hand-made chick appliqué character in bright spring colours which I then manipulated in Photoshop. With tactile textile beginnings these designs have the potential for details such as the buttons, eyes and ribbons to be applied to the cards after printing giving them added interest and an eye-catching quality.

My Easter Rabbit card began as a hand-drawn sketch which I then scanned in to Photoshop and added fabric detail to. The colours on this design are muted floral tones to give it a serene spring-like quality. The ribbon and text could be applied to the card after printing for a eye-catching 3D effect.

My Easter Lamb card has been created entirely in Photoshop using scanned fabric textures and floral trim. The flowers and jewel detail could be applied to the printed card on this design adding interest and giving a more tactile quality to the product.

Appliqué Characters - Farm Animals 1

Spring is here (finally!) so I am working on some spring-time animal designs. I am beginning with farmyard designs creating simple characters and focusing on the textures of the fabrics I use. The result is almost nursery-like animals with a soft tactile quality. I am really pleased with the colourway of this design as I feel I have managed to achieve a fresh spring-like effect.

The images of this design have been removed from my blog as I have now sold the original artwork. I shall post more images once the design appears in-store (with production times this can take up to a year).

Appliqué Characters - Farm Animals 2

Here is my second installment of appliquéd farm animal designs. This design is made from patchwork panels and farmyard characters created using as few fabrics as possible.

Once again these images have been taken from a larger appliquéd artwork. With a pink and lilac colour palette this design takes a theme more traditionally aimed at boys and targets the girls' market .

Greetings Card Designs - Mother's Day

These designs are the beginnings of my 2009 Mother's Day card collection. All four designs were created using hand-drawn/sewn/collaged floral images scanned in to Photoshop and then manipulated to add fabric textures and text.

I intend to experiment with these designs further and create some 'real' card prototypes from the images giving them more of a hand-crafted look. I shall post these cards on my blog once completed.
